Tottenham have made a breakthrough in their attempt to sign Gareth Bale, according to reports.
The Times state there is "growing confidence" at Spurs that a deal can be struck before the 11pm deadline this evening.
The London club have long been linked with a move for their former player, who has endured an eventful six-year stay at Real Madrid.
Bale has played a key part in Real's trophy success, including three Champions League titles, while in the Spanish capital but has had to deal with intense media scrutiny over his performances.
His relationship with boss Zinedine Zidane has been strained at times, with supporters also appearing lukewarm to him.
A return to the Premier League has always been touted, but his astronomical wages, believed to be in the region of £500,000 a week, have always been a stumbling block.
Bale's agent, Jonathan Barnett, told Sky last week: "At the moment he's going to be playing football this evening for Real Madrid. He's got another two-and-a-half years on his contract and he'll be fine.
"No loan move. He’s one of the best players on earth, why would one of the best players on earth go somewhere on loan? That’s ridiculous.
"That's what I've always said [that he will fulfil his contract] and never deviated, that's where I'm going to stay. Things could change but loans are ridiculous. There are not many clubs who can afford him anyway. He’s happy, he'll play for Real Madrid and hopefully win a couple more things with them."
When specifically pressed on a potential return to Tottenham, Barnett said: "I'm an Arsenal supporter, thank you very much."
The Times add that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy travelled to Madrid to discuss a transfer with president Florentino Perez, initially involving Christian Eriksen, before expressing his desire to re-sign Bale.
