Tottenham make Ryan Sessegnon decision ahead of transfer deadline

Tottenham are set to agree a loan deal with Hoffenheim for Ryan Sessegnon, football.london understands.

The former Fulham star has been strongly linked with a short-term move to further his development, having faced increased competition for places at Spurs following the arrivals of Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale.

Premier League sides Southampton, Leeds United and Brighton have all been linked with the 20-year-old, but it is understood that Hoffenheim are leading the way to sign him and are now expected to seal a loan move.

Jose Mourinho and Spurs are keen for Sessegnon to get game time as a left-back or left wing-back, with Tottenham seeing the England U21 international's long-term future in that position.

And although there is interest from Premier League sides, Hoffenheim look set to win the race, with the Bundesliga side needing a left-footed player to play in such a position.

Hoffenheim's clear need was on show this afternoon as they lost out 2-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, with right winger Steven Zubar starting at left wing-back, before being substituted in the latter stages of the game.

With several clubs interested in signing Sessegnon, it is understood that Tottenham are likely to receive a loan fee for the player, which could provide a boost for Jose Mourinho as Spurs look to complete some late business ahead of the transfer deadline.
