Tottenham make Nikola Milenkovic enquiry as Jose Mourinho hints at Spurs line-up for Stoke City

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Wednesday, December 23.

Spurs make proposal for Milenkovic

Tottenham have already made an approach to sign Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic in January, according to a report from La Nazione.

The Serie A outfit are demanding £23m for Milenkovic, with Manchester United also named as an interested party.

Jose Mourinho is clearly still keen to add another central defender to his ranks despite completing the signing of Joe Rodon from Swansea City a couple of months ago.

The Fiorentina defender has played 13 games in the Italian top-flight this season, and with his 6ft 5in frame, he has managed to bag himself two goals already during this campaign.

Mourinho hints at Stoke team

Tottenham boss Mourinho has hinted at selecting a "mixture" of players for his side's Carabao Cup quarter-final tie with Stoke City this evening.

Spurs have a brilliant chance to put themselves in the semi-finals with a win over the Potters and Mourinho has revealed that a number of key players could be rested for the match.

"I think a mixture. I think we need some players who need to play and deserve to play," the Spurs manager explained.

"From the ones that are playing more times, others where we don’t have great options to make changes and have to keep them but I will try to give a little bit of a rest to two or three."

Aldridge makes Mourinho and Spurs claim

Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes Mourinho is saying "the wrong things again" after his comments about Spurs' defeat to the Reds last week.

Jurgen Klopp's side scored a last minute winner against Tottenham at Anfield but the visitors' boss claimed that his side were the better team on the night.

Aldridge, speaking in his Liverpool Echo column, also thinks that the Reds' win over Spurs is a real psychological blow for the north London side.

The ex-Liverpool forward said: The Tottenham game was excellent and for us to win that, you’ve seen what it’s done psychologically to Tottenham. It’s harmed them.

"The comments from Jose Mourinho have harmed them as well. He’s saying the wrong things again. I’m surprised they’ve only got one point from the last three games. Liverpool have taken advantage and laid down the law."
