Tottenham Hotspur won't be bringing in Inter Milan central defender Milan Skriniar this transfer window.
football.london understands that talks between Spurs and the Nerazzurri have now ended and that Spurs will continue to monitor the Slovakian international.
A move in the January transfer window could be resurrected after chief scout Steve Hitchen was pictured in Milan recently discussing a possible deal for the 25-year-old centre-back with 33 caps for his country.
Jose Mourinho's side are widely regarded as having a very good transfer window that has included the return of Wales attacker Gareth Bale, Spanish Left-back Sergio Reguilon as well as Brazilian striker Carlos Vinicius.
The Premier League experienced Joe Hart, Matt Doherty and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were added earlier in the summer and the north London giants were looking to upgrade their options in central defence as the last piece of the transfer market 'puzzle' previously referred to by Mourinho.
But Skriniar - who started in Inter Milan's 1-1 draw at Lazio on Sunday - will not be arriving in London.
It remains to be seen if Spurs make any late moves for further defenders with time running out, but the club are understood to be relaxed over their defensive options.
Although Jan Vertonghen departed this summer, Ben Davies and Japhet Tanganga offer cover in the middle of defence, with Eric Dier having shown good form since his move from midfield to further back.
The Lilywhites have been linked with Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger and Juventus' Merih Demiral, but those deals look unlikely to happen at this stage.
Tottenham Hotspur were in good form to beat Manchester United 1-6 at Old Trafford on Sunday, with Davison Sanchez and Dier as the selected central defenders for that game.
Spurs may reevaluate in January and pick up the pursuit of Skriniar again then.
