Tottenham 'make loan bid for Arsenal transfer target Philippe Coutinho'

Tottenham have made a bid to sign Philippe Coutinho on loan, according to reports.

The Barcelona midfielder has been linked with a temporary switch to Arsenal in recent weeks, but their north London rivals are apparently looking to gazump them.

Coutinho completed a £142million transfer to Barcelona from Liverpool back in January 2018, but has failed to shine at Camp Nou.

Frenkie de Jong and Antoine Griezmann joining Barcelona this summer has only made first team opportunities harder to come by for Coutinho.

And a loan move away this summer appears to be a sensible option.

It has already been reported that Barcelona are open to the idea of letting Coutinho leave on loan to a Premier League club for the season.

They would command a fee in the region of £21million to £27million for his services, though, which could put out some teams off a loan deal.

According to The Times, Spurs are willing to take punt on the Brazilian, with Mauricio Pochettino confident he can get the best out of Coutinho.

The former Liverpool midfielder previously played under Pochettino at Espanyol, and may be open to the switch.

Coutinho earns around £200,000-a-week at Barcelona, which would see him become the best paid-player at Tottenham, should he join.
