Tottenham: Lucas Bergvall injury update as Ange Postecoglou confirms worst fears

Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall is expected to miss the remainder of the season through injury.

Bergvall, who this week signed a new six-year contract with the club, picked up an ankle injury in training ahead of Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first-leg win over Bodo/Glimt.

The teenager was spotted in a foot brace and using crutches at the stadium ahead of kick-off.

It is a huge blow for both club and player, with Bergvall maturing into a first-team regular in his debut season with Spurs.

Confirming the news on Friday afternoon, Ange Postecoglou said: “Lucas looks like the injury is enough to keep him out for the rest of the season.

“He tweaked ligaments in his ankle, so he’s out.”

There was far better news on Heung-min Son, who has been sidelined with a foot injury. The captain has not featured since the 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in early April.

Sunday’s trip to West Ham will come too soon for Son, but he remains in contention for the trip to Norway for the second leg against Bodo/Glimt.

Postecolgou said: “Sonny is working hard. He’s out on the grass every day. We’ll see how he’s going by Thursday whether he’s available for Thursday.”
