Tottenham legend talks up the importance of Jack Clarke returning to Leeds United on loan

Ledley King believes that Jack Clarke has the potential to break into Tottenham’s first team in the future.

The former Tottenham captain gave a new interview in which he talked about the new signing, the club’s first since January 2018.

Speaking to Oddschecker , King was asked about his thoughts on the transfer, as well as the decision to send him back on loan to Leeds .

“I think he’s a terrific young player and it’s important that he now goes back to Leeds to develop his education further,” he responded.

“It’s important at that age to play football, it’s not easy when you take a young kid out of playing regular football.”

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has been reluctant to send out the younger players out on loan, opting instead to develop upcoming players such as Harry Winks and Kyle Walker-Peters himself.

His decision to send Clarke back to Leeds for another is a testament to his trust and relationship with Marcelo Bielsa, who gave the 18-year-old his first opportunities at the club.

Bielsa famously brought through Pochettino at Newell’s Old Boys back in the early 90s. The pair won the Argentinian title together before Pochettino went on to enjoy a successful playing career in Europe, most notably at Espanyol and PSG.

“Eventually, yes” King replied, when asked if he could break into the Spurs first team.

“But he’s got a lot to learn and there’s a host of top-class players playing in the current team.

“That will be his task, to make the manager (Pochettino) pick him. If he has a good season again at Leeds, he’ll come back and will be in the manager’s thoughts.”
