Tottenham legend's brilliant one-word response to Harry Winks' tackle against Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur began the new Premier League season with a 3-1 win over Aston Villa at the weekend.

The north London outfit actually fell behind to the newly-promoted team in the first-half when John McGinn took advantage of some slack defending from Davinson Sanchez to break the deadlock.

And the hosts could have been two down going into the break.

If not for a superb interception from Harry Winks then Spurs captain Hugo Lloris would have been called into action again.

It all came from a Tottenham corner which Villa managed to clear and send the ball up field.

Trezeguet looked a certainty to breeze beyond Winks with his pace as Villa looked to hit Spurs on the counter.

Luckily for Mauricio Pochettino's side, Winks read those intentions superbly.

He produced a sublime tackle that stopped the Villa forward - who would have been clean through on goal - in his tracks and got Spurs in possession again with an sensational piece of skill.

The 23-year-old then got up off the ground quickly as Anwar El Ghazi looked to pounce on the loose ball, before then sending the Dutchman completely the wrong way with an outrageous shimmy.

Not only did Winks draw applause from the Spurs faithful, but club legend David Ginola was also very impressed.

Responding to the Spurs tweet, the Frenchman had a brilliant one-word response.

He said: "Fab!" accompanied with the thumbs up emoji.

That tackle proved to be a platform for Spurs to build upon and they did just that with three second half goals - one from debutant Tanguy Ndombele and a brace from Harry Kane - to finally see off Villa.

Next up is a trip to the champions on Saturday - evoking memories of last season's Champions League quarter-final second leg where VAR helped Spurs overcome Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
