Tottenham know how to complete Romero signing as club legend is against Vestergaard deal

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Wednesday, July 21.

Tottenham know how to seal Romero signing

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi has stated that any offers for Cristian Romero "must match the player's value" as Tottenham look to sign the centre-back.

football.london understands that Spurs are indeed in advanced negotiations for the Argentina international as well as goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.

The CEO has outlined the current state of play around the two deals.

“There are many options that we are evaluating. Gollini is an important player for us, but there is nothing decided yet. Tottenham are a concrete option,” he said after the unveiling of Atalanta’s new kits, as reported by Football Italia.

“Romero is one of the best defenders in Serie A and it’s normal that many clubs are interested in signing him. Atalanta allowed him to develop and play Champions League football.

“Let’s see what happens, if we are to sell players, we must do it in a smart way and offers must match the player's value.”

Club legend warns against potential Vestergaard signing

Tottenham have been warned off signing Southampton centre-back Jannik Vestergaard by club legend Graham Roberts, as Nuno Espirito Santo looks for defensive reinforcement this summer.

Vestergaard, 28, has had a standout season in the Saints backline this season, coupled with an impressive Euro 2020 campaign with a Denmark team who were inspired by the tragic accident suffered by ex-Lillywhites player Christian Eriksen early on in the tournament.

When asked about the club’s rumoured pursuit of Vestergaard, the legendary Spurs defend told Football Fancast: “He’s not better than what we’ve got already.

“You want somebody better than what you’ve got.

“I don’t think Vestergaard is top-notch so, if I was the manager, I’d say he’s not for me.”

Who is Tottenham's transfer target Bryan Gil?

Nuno Espirito Santo could also be welcoming a third arrival to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium soon though, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the club are close to finalising a deal for Sevilla midfielder Bryan Gil.

It is suggested that current Tottenham wideman Erik Lamela is set to move to Spain, with the La Liga outfit also set to receive €25million (£21.6m), plus add-ons, in exchange.

Just what are Spurs set to earn with the arrival of Gil though? football.london takes a closer look.

Gil is a 20-year-old winger who was born in Barcelona. His family moved to Andalucia when he was a child, allowing him to join Sevilla’s youth academy following a spell with local side Barbate CF.
