Tottenham killing: Man, 22, arrested on suspicion of murder after woman, 89, found dead inside her home

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an elderly woman was found dead inside her home.

Dorothy Woolmer, 89, was pronounced dead at the scene after police were called to Waltheof Gardens, Tottenham, on Sunday morning.

Police said she had "clearly been assaulted" and launched a murder investigation.

The suspect was arrested on Monday evening and is currently being questioned in a north London police station.

Det Ch Insp Garry Moncrieff said: “The woman had clearly been assaulted and, as such, a murder investigation has been launched.

“I want to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in and around Waltheof Gardens and the surrounding area on Saturday night or Sunday morning."

Police are not ruling out burglary as a motive.

Ms Woolmer's family have been informed of her death.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD 3149 of August 4 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
