Jan Vertonghen has extended his Tottenham contract until the end of the 2019/20 season.
The defender's deal was to set to expire at the end of this month and it would have brought an end to his eight-year stay in the capital.
However, with the league now extended until the end of July due to the coronavirus pandemic bringing the sport to a halt, the Belgian international has now committed his future to the club for their remaining games.
The club have also confirmed that Michel Vorm has also agreed to stay beyond the end of the month for the campaign to be completed.
Vorm was actually released by the Lilywhites 12 months ago but Hugo Lloris' elbow injury at Brighton & Hove Albion in October saw the club move for the Dutchman on a short-term contract to provide cover.
A number of Tottenham's loan players have also extended their deals so that they can complete the campaign at their current clubs.
Full-backs Danny Rose and Kyle Walker-Peters, who both departed N17 in January after falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho, have extended their loans at Newcastle United and Southampton respectively.
Jack Clarke and Luke Amos will also stay at QPR for their remaining eight games of the Championship season, although Spurs didn't confirm if Cameron Carter-Vickers will stay with Luton Town in the statement on the club's official website.
Brandon Austin and Armando Shashuoua also remain with Viborg and Atletico Baleares as they look to get some more experience of playing in a first-team environment.
The likes of George Marsh and Jack Roles had spent the season out on loan but decision to the end the League Two season saw them return to the club.
