Tottenham have confirmed that Oliver Skipp has undergone surgery to repair a metatarsal fracture.
Joining Norwich City on loan at the start of the season, the midfielder has made a huge impression at Carrow Road and played a major role in the heart of midfield to help the Canaries return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Starting in 44 of their 45 Championship games so far this campaign, the 20-year-old picked up a foot injury late on during last Saturday's 4-1 triumph over Reading as they secured the title.
Skipp did manage to complete the full 90 minutes against the Royals but he was spotted on crutches and with his right foot in a protective boot during their post-match celebrations.
Speaking after the game, Norwich manager Daniel Farke initially feared the worst when providing an update on his player's fitness.
“It is an issue with his foot. We think it could be broken," he told Eastern Daily Press.
"It is a shame because he was unbelievable this season. One of our outstanding players.
"It was pretty painful for him and our physios’ first assessment was they are not that optimistic for him.”
Four days since picking up the injury, Tottenham have now confirmed that the player has gone under the knife to repair a metatarsal fracture and that he is expected to return to training during pre-season.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Oliver Skipp has undergone surgery to repair a metatarsal fracture.
"Oliver has spent the season on loan at Norwich City and sustained the injury late on during their 4-1 win against Reading on Saturday, a game which secured the Canaries the Championship title.
"The England Under-21 international will undergo a period of recovery and is expected to return to training during the pre-season period."
Skipp's injury means he will now miss out on the chance to have played in all 46 of Norwich's Championship games when the season draws to a close this Saturday.
The Canaries travel to Barnsley on the final day with the hosts playing for their position in the end of season play-offs.
