Moussa Sissoko has an outside chance of being fit for Tottenham’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Chelsea on Thursday after assessments revealed his injury is not as bad as first feared.
Sissoko was expected to be sidelined for a month with a groin strain after pulling up in the 1-0 defeat by Manchester United.
But further tests have revealed a problem in a muscle near his groin and the Frenchman is hopeful of being fit for Stamford Bridge — even if a return in the FA Cup fifth-round against Crystal Palace on January 27 is considered more likely.
He will definitely miss Sunday’s game at Fulham, along with Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.
Kane is beginning rehabilitation for ankle-ligament damage, which is likely to sideline him until at least the end of February, while Son is preparing for South Korea’s Asian Cup clash with Bahrain on Tuesday.
In their absence, Fernando Llorente is pushing for a first Premier League start in more than 12 months, while Lucas Moura (knee) remains our and Eric Dier (appendix) will be assessed on Friday.
