Mousa Dembele has flown to Qatar to see specialists after an ankle injury ruled him out until 2019.

The Belgian suffered his latest foot injury during the 3-2 win over Wolves earlier this month and scans later revealed that he had suffered ligament damage.

Dembele, 31, played through pain last season and was one of the top performers under Mauricio Pochettino, but has not been able to replicate such form this term.

He has now travelled to visit specialists Aspetar, who treated teammate Harry Winks following his ankle injury in April.

The hospital claim to provide the “highest possible medical treatment for sports-related injuries in a state-of-the-art facility, staffed by some of the world’s leading sports medicine practitioners and researchers.”

Dembele is one of nine Tottenham players to have suffered an injury following the World Cup, with Davinson Sanchez and Kieran Trippier the latest to find themselves on the treatment table. Just Harry Kane, Toby Alderweireld and Heung-min Son have made it this far unscathed.
