Spurs set to solve centre-back problem
José Mourinho could be set to welcome another new signing at Hotspur Way, with Football.London reporting Spurs are in talks with Milan Škriniar .
The Internazionale centre-back has been earmarked as a potential replacement for Jan Vertonghen who left on a free transfer this summer.
Mourinho has been dissatisfied with his options at centre-back and Spurs are yet to keep a clean sheet this season. Talks remain ongoing between the Slovakian international and the two clubs, but the price being quoted is currently set at £50 million – which could pose a problem.
Škriniar has spent the last four years in Italy, three of which have been representing Inter. He is a tall, powerful central defender capable of playing in a back-two or back-three. The 25-year-old has also been noted for his ball-playing capabilities, but has been known to struggle aerially which may be of some concern.
Nevertheless, Spurs appear to have identified a further defensive target and are moving towards striking a deal with the Italian club where he is surplus to requirements under Antonio Conte.
All not lost in called-off Carabao tie
Tottenham’s postponed Carabao Cup fixture with Leyton Orient was a source of grave disappointment for the League Two club and supporters of both teams looking forward to seeing the sides in action.
Orient were set to face Spurs in the Third Round of the competition, but a string of positive COVID-19 cases at the club rendered the match unplayable on safety grounds.
As a result, Spurs fans have decided to show their good-will, purchasing O’s memorabilia and donating it to children at Whipps’ Cross Hospital and local hospice Haven House.
The fourth tier outfit’s official account tweeted a thank you to Spurs supporters yesterday morning, stating the club’s official shop had amassed £20,000 in sales from the previous morning – an extraordinary effort.

Reguilón misses out on Europa League trip
Spurs boss José Mourinho has stated new signing Sergio Reguilón will not make his debut in this evening’s Europa League qualification tie with FK Shkendija because he is not registered.
Reguilón was unveiled alongside Gareth Bale last week but will not be in action in North Macedonia, which will save him from a gruelling trip ahead of this weekend’s Premier League game against Newcastle United.
"He's not even in the UEFA list because we knew he couldn't be ready to play this match, so we kept this list from the previous round so Sergio not yet,” Mourinho divulged in his press conference yesterday.
23-year-old Reguilón will be up to speed whenever he is called upon, having spent the majority of August playing for Sevilla on their road to Europa League glory.
The left-back could take Ben Davies’ spot in the side at the weekend, if Mourinho deems Reguilón integrated well-enough to start against the Magpies.
