Tottenham in talks to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United and more transfer rumours

Jesse Lingard could reportedly be offered a Manchester United escape route by former manager Jose Mourinho at Tottenham.

Lingard was left out of the matchday squad in the Premier League opening day defeat to Crystal Palace, and has seen Donny van de Beek arrive to seemingly move ahead of him in the midfield hierarchy.

Now, it's claimed by ESPN that Mourinho has asked Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to explore a move to bring Lingard to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and that discussions have begun between intermediaries.

The report says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to keep Lingard at United and has offered him assurances of playing time in this season's hectic schedule. However, the new reports say the 27-year-old wants to be playing more regularly, even if he is reluctant to leave United.

It's claimed that any move for Lingard would be dependent on Spurs selling England teammate Dele Alli, who has been left out of the last two matchday squads by Mourinho and is reportedly a target for PSG.

Meanwhile, Spanish side Valencia are the latest team to be linked with a move for goalkeeper Sergio Romero this summer.

The Argentine is free to leave Old Trafford following the return of Dean Henderson and The Mirror say Valencia are keen to pay £6million for him.
