Tottenham are working on adding assistant coach Ivan Javorcic to interim manager Igor Tudor’s backroom staff.
Javorcic, who worked under Tudor at Juventus and Lazio, is in the process of finalising a work permit.
Tudor was appointed interim manager until the end of the season after Thomas Frank was sacked following Spurs’ 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle.
He brought in three new members of backroom staff, with assistant coach Bruno Saltor, goalkeeping coach Tomislav Rogic, and physical coach Riccardo Raganacci joining existing staff, Andreas Georgson, Cameron Campbell, and Fabian Otte.
It has long been known that Tudor has been keen to add Javorcic to his ranks, and he confirmed in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday that the club were working on finalising a deal for his fellow countryman.
“Yes, it is an ongoing thing. We wait. Still, we wait,” the Croat said, before adding that work permit issues were currently holding up the deal. “Yeah, yeah. We are waiting (for the work permit).”
Javorcic is Tudor’s trusted assistant, having helped him get immediate results at Juventus and Lazio.
During their time together at Lazio, the pair enjoyed a two-month unbeaten run in the league, helping stabilise the club after the departure of Maurizio Sarri.
They then worked together again to help Juventus seal Champions League qualification in the second half of last season.
Javorcic will arrive in north London to assist Tudor as he looks to steer Spurs, who sit 16th in the Premier League table, away from the relegation zone.
After failing to win his first two games in charge, Tudor is already under pressure to deliver results as Spurs prepare to take on Crystal Palace on Thursday.
