Tottenham in limbo as appeal against Fabio Paratici ban is heard in Italy

Tottenham are facing an anxious wait to discover the outcome of Fabio Paratici’s appeal against his two-and-a-half year ban from football, which will be heard by the Italian Olympic Committee on Wednesday.

Paratici, Spurs’ managing director of football, was put on leave by the club after his 30-month suspension from working in Italy football was unexpectedly extended by FIFA to the rest of the world at the end of March.

The Italian was initially banned from working only in his home country in January after his former club Juventus, where he was an executive for 11 years, were found guilty by an Italian court of false accounting.

His appeal is due to heard by on Wednesday afternoon, although the Italian Olympic Committee have no power to overturn or alter the ban, only to send the original case back to court.

A decision could take several days, leaving Spurs, who are also without a permanent manager, in a state of limbo.

Paratici is also facing a separate investigation by UEFA, while another case over Juve secretly making salary payments to a number of players while he was at the club is also hanging over him.

Spurs have said they will consider the outcome of Paratici’s appeal before deciding on their next move.
