Tottenham identify two potential Jose Mourinho replacements as pressure mounts on boss

Tottenham have identified two potential managers to replace Jose Mourinho should they decide to sack The Special One.

It comes as pressure continues to mount on the Portuguese coach, whose side are in desperately poor form.

A shocking downturn in results has seen Spurs pick up just 12 points in their last 12 Premier League matches.

Earlier in the season, there was talk that Tottenham could muster a title challenge.

Now they are in a fight to stay in the top six, with their chances of finishing in a Champions League spot looking slim.

They sit ninth in the table, there they remain just six points off a top-four spot, but their form has gone out of the window.

It has left Mourinho fighting for his job, though any further decision would be held off until the end of the season, report the Daily Mail.

However, with the club's season hanging in the balance, the former Manchester United and Chelsea manager finds himself up against the wall.

And the Daily Mail further report that Tottenham chiefs have identified two coaches who could replace the 58-year-old - Brendan Rodgers and Julian Nagelsmann.

Under Rodgers, Leicester look a formidable side and are third in the Premier League and do not look out of place being there.

While Nagelsmann has been branded one of the best up and coming coaches in the world, taking RB Leipzig to a Champions League semi-final last season.

However, landing either manager at this stage of the season would be borderline impossible - especially considering the finances involved.

Mourinho is earning £15m-a-year at Spurs, making him one of the best-paid coaches in the world.

And sacking him would set Tottenham back enormously while Daniel Levy is also desperate for the ex-Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss to succeed.

European football is vital for the north London club, though, and it makes winning the Europa League all that more important.

It would strike two birds with one stone - a first trophy in 13 years and also Champions League football next season.

But the prospect of no European action next year would leave Mourinho facing the axe.
