Tottenham identify Dele Alli transfer replacement as Aston Villa fixture plunged into doubt

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Friday, January 8.

Conditions for Eriksen return

Christian Eriksen could return to Spurs if Dele Alli leaves the club in January, according to Teamtalk.

Alli has been regularly linked with a move away from Spurs after falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho, with just four Premier League appearances to his name this season.

Spurs are not understood to be looking to sell Alli but speculation over his future continues, especially after Mauricio Pochettino's arrival at PSG, who had already shown an interest in the 24-year-old in the summer.

Should Alli depart, he could well be replaced by Eriksen.

Spurs interested in Marcel Sabitzer move but not right now

Reports in Italy have claimed Spurs may look to bring Eriksen back to North London following an unsuccessful 12 months at Inter Milan should Alli leave.

Villa game in doubt

Aston Villa have closed their training ground following a "significant" coronavirus outbreak at the club.

Spurs are set to travel to Villa Park on Wednesday and the game is now in doubt after first-team training was cancelled.

"Aston Villa can confirm that the Club has closed its Bodymoor Heath training ground after a significant Coronavirus outbreak," read a statement on the club's official website.

"A large number of first-team players and staff returned positive tests after being routinely tested on Monday and immediately went into isolation.

"A second round of testing was carried out immediately and produced more positive results today.

"First team training ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup match with Liverpool was cancelled.

"Discussions are ongoing between medical representatives of the Club, the Football Association and the Premier League."

Mourinho's Vinicius moment

Mourinho was clearly struck by Carlos Vinicius' few minutes on the pitch in Spurs' victory over Brentford on Tuesday.

Spurs booked their place in the Wembley final with a comfortable victory over the Championship side and, after exchanging pleasantries with Bees boss Thomas Frank post-match, Mourinho shared an exchange with Vinicius.

Mourinho had clearly spotted something in the Brazilian's performance as he spoke with the player before patting him on the back.

The on-loan forward managed to touch the ball just once during his limited time in action after replacing Son Heung-min.
