Tottenham Hotspurs’ training ground was evacuated on Friday afternoon following the discovery of a suspected unexploded Second World War bomb.
However, the “bomb” was subsequently found to be a piece of metal.
Bomb disposal specialists were called to the North London football team’s ground just after 3pm, but had left the scene by 4.40pm after the unexploded device was removed.
Roads around the Bullsmoor Lane training ground in Enfield were closed and cordons were put in place as the experts handled the suspected bomb, MailOnline reports.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said “a few residential homes were also evacuated as a precaution”.
A club spokesman told The Sun: “An unidentified piece of metal was unearthed on the Training Centre site earlier this afternoon and, as a precaution, the Metropolitan Police cordoned off the surrounding area.
“The incident was cleared shortly after as the object was found to hold no danger.”
A photograph on social media that was subsequently deleted appeared to show police and ambulances at the ground.
