The inside story of Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace chaos amid postponement decision

Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace are set to clash as usual after the decision not to postpone their Boxing Day game in north London.

The sides are scheduled to come together at 3pm on Boxing Day but the fixture had been thrown into some doubt.

football.london understood that the game was set to be postponed amid rising Covid-19 cases in the Eagles’ current squad - fortunes that have affected both the playing and the backroom staff.

However, an official statement from the league had previously not been forthcoming, whilst both Tottenham and Palace had been left somewhat in the dark.

football.london understands that Antonio Conte's squad were still at the club's Hotspur Way training base and were awaiting an official line from the Premier League ahead of travelling to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace cancelled their pre-match meeting last night amid the expectation that the game in north London would be called off.

The players were then reportedly been told to head to their pre-match meeting destination, with London World stating that further testing was needed.

Further reports from The Athletic suggested that the game would indeed take place as usual should no further positives be returned, that is despite an initial request from Palace to get the game postponed.

Now, the decision has been made to play the game as normal amid a hugely impacted festive fixture list.

Three matches on Boxing Day have already been postponed, whilst Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is set to miss his side’s clash with Chelsea having returned a positive test for the virus.
