Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to show club's support for NHS workers

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will turn blue on Thursday night to show support for the NHS.

The doctors, nurses and many other staff who work for the NHS have been among the heroes as the country battles against the coronavirus pandemic sweeping across the world.

A nationwide movement to acknowledge their efforts will take place at 8pm on Thursday night and Spurs will be joining in by using the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to show their support.

Harry Winks' brilliant way of making a cup of tea

"The club will tonight proudly illuminate its stadium in blue colours as part of a nationwide show of support for our wonderful NHS," read a statement from Tottenham.

"At 8pm, people across the country are being encouraged to join in a mass round of applause for those that are on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic as part of the #ClapForOurCarers campaign.

"Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will join iconic buildings across the UK in being illuminated in NHS blue, with The O2, Wembley Stadium and the Royal Albert Hall also amongst those taking part in the #LightItBlue initiative as a further show of appreciation.

"It follows previous occasions on which the club has illuminated London’s newest landmark for good causes, including ‘Wear it pink’ for breast cancer awareness and Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign.

"People are also being asked to show their support for the NHS on social media at home by either wearing or creating something blue.

"We’re encouraging fans to get involved in the campaign by posting their photos and videos to social media using the hashtags #ClapForOurCarers , #LightItBlue or #MakeItBlue and tagging in @SpursOfficial.

"We hope that you can join us in showing your support, whilst please adhering to the most important message of all - staying at home."
