Tottenham Hotspur odds: Nuno Espirito Santo charged with bringing the glory days back to Spurs

Seventy-two days after sacking Jose Mourinho, Tottenham Hotspur have finally announced his permanent replacement, former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Despite not being the club’s first choice and having looked certain to take over at Crystal Palace earlier in the summer, Nuno is the man Daniel Levy has turned to re-establish Spurs as a top-four club.

That isn’t going to be easy unless the Portuguese boss is backed in the transfer market but Nuno’s immediate priority has to be to arrest Spurs’ decline under Mourinho and get the fans back on board.

Santo will also be hoping that he can keep hold of the team’s best player Harry Kane, who has signalled his intent to move on this summer.

The new boss might just get his wish given the resolution of Spurs Chief Executive Levy, who has so far, publicly at least, rebuffed any claims that the club’s biggest asset will be allowed to leave. Kane is 3/4 to still be a Spurs player next season.

If Spurs are to have any chance of challenging the likes of the Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Chelsea then it is crucial that Kane stays in North London.

Spurs are 4/1 to finish in Top Four betting lists next season under Nuno next term but that price would increase significantly were Manchester City able to wrestle Kane away this summer.

Nuno will need to work quickly with his squad because it is the champions that Spurs host in their first Premier League fixture. Spurs are 4/1 to get their season off to the perfect start with 3pts in that fixture, with City warm favourites at 13/20.

Nuno doesn’t have long to wait before he comes up against his former club given Spurs travel to Molineux for their second league game of the season on 22 August.
