Tottenham Hotspur have handed indefinite bans to 48 fans after they were found to have illegally sold tickets for the match against Red Star Belgrade, football.london understands.
Fans of the Serbian club had been banned from attending or purchasing tickets for the Champions League game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday October 22 as punishment for racist chanting.
However, a group of 200 supporters travelled to London and found their way into the top tier of the stadium, congregating in the North Stand. Videos of the large group were circulated on social media both during and after the match as they sang in support of Red Star.
Tottenham came out as comfortable 5-0 winners on the night after which the club launched an official investigation into how the fans had illegally obtained tickets in the home end.
"Red Star supporters illegally obtained individual tickets on Level 5 and made their way around to one section of the stadium in order to congregate as a group," said a club spokesman following the match.
"Stewards and police contained the group as it was too large a number to eject. We have launched a full investigation in order to understand how tickets have been acquired.
"We shall take the strongest possible action against any individual found to have sold their ticket on."
football.london understand that the investigation has led to Spurs handing indefinate bans for 48 One Hotspur members who were found to have bought multiple tickets in order to sell them on to Red Star fans.
UEFA's disciplinary panel upheld the charge against the Serbian Champions after they ruled that racist chants were sung during the Champions League qualifier against Finnish side HJK Helsinki back in July.
Aswell as a ban on away fans for the trip to Tottenham, Red Star were also fined £44,500.
It's not the first time that the club has been in trouble with the governing body in recent seasons, with them being forced to play a home playoff game behind closed doors last season after similar offences.
