Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines as Mourinho told to sign Wilson, defender talks continue

Here are your Tottenham evening headlines for August 19

Former Spurs star wants Wilson

Former Tottenham and Scotland defender Alan Hutton wants Jose Mourinho to sign Bournemouth star striker Callum Wilson as a back up to Harry Kane, and thinks Spurs could grab him on the cheap after the Cherries’ relegation.

“I do think they need someone,” Hutton told Football Insider . “Before all this pandemic stuff and Harry Kane was missing it was a really difficult time for them, obviously they had Son missing as well.

“I think Callum Wilson who can play number nine or from out wide, I think he gives them a couple different options. They could possibly get him on the cheap now they’ve been relegated.

“I think he does fit the bill, he’s a good age, a good goalscorer, so I think he’d be good to have in the squad. I can’t see him starting at Tottenham but I think he’d be a good squad member and that’s probably why Mourinho’s looking at him.”

Mourinho has a to-do list ahead of his side’s friendly against Ipswich town as he gets a first look at his squad ahead of the new season.

Mourinho even earmarked Lo Celso’s progress close to the end of the season last month.

"A little bit, yeah. He's struggling a little bit," admitted Mourinho before last month's game away at Newcastle United. "We are waiting for the end of the season which is coming.

"Then with the three weeks more or less of holiday, and probably a month of pre-season, we think it'll be enough time for take care of his problem."
