Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines as Bale and Reguilon double move close

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Wednesday September 16.

Spurs hoping to tie up Real double swoop

Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to work on deals to sign Real Madrid pair Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale.

As football.london Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold writes , Spurs are expected to complete the signing of left-back Reguilon first.

The club are also trying to complete a sensational loan deal for Bale, which would see the winger return to the club seven years after he departed for the Spanish capital.

The two clubs remain locked in talks with Real said to prefer a permanent exit for the Welshman, who has won four Champions Leagues during his time at the Bernabeu.

Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett told BBC Wales on Tuesday: "Gareth still loves Spurs. We are talking [Spurs, Real and Bale's camp]. It's where he wants to be."

On Wednesday morning, he said: "It's close but not done. It's a complicated deal."

Current government protocols regarding travellers from Spain are not expected to impact the deals.

Travellers from Spain currently have to isolate on arrival in the UK, but there are exemption rules for elite athletes, which means the players would only need a negative COVID-19 test and an MRI test before leaving Spain.

Alli not set to be part of Bale deal

Tottenham will not entertain the idea of selling Dele Alli to Real Madrid as part of the deal to bring Bale back to the club, according to Football Insider .

Alli had been mentioned in some reports as possibly leaving Spurs with Bale coming in from the Spanish giants.

However, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is said to have no intention of letting Alli leave.

Spurs are discussing several different options with Real over Bale, including a season-long loan, a two-year loan and a loan with an option to buy.

Real Madrid are said to be willing to subsidise at least half of Bale’s reported £600,000-a-week wages, which could be key in sealing his return to north London.

Spurs set to miss out on Sorloth

One player who seemingly won’t be joining Spurs, however, is Alexander Sorloth, who is poised to join RB Leipzig, as per Football Insider .

Spurs had been linked with the Crystal Palace striker, who impressed on loan at Trabzonspor last season, with Jose Mourinho keen to add further depth to his attack.

Sorloth, who struggled to make an impression at Palace after arriving from Midtjylland in 2018, is expected to join Leipzig for around £20m.

The German side have been searching for attacking reinforcements after selling top-scorer Timo Werner to Chelsea.

Sorloth scored 33 goals in all competitions for Trabzonspor last season, including a Golden Boot-clinching 24 in the Turkish Super Lig.
