Tottenham hope to ditch Vincent Janssen in February after deadline day deals collapse

Tottenham still hope to offload Vincent Janssen this month after talks with Real Betis and Schalke broke down before last night’s transfer deadline.

Neither wanted to meet Tottenham’s desired loan fee for Janssen and Spurs will try to find a club in Portugal, Russia or China for the 24-year-old.

The Portuguese window closes on Saturday, while Russian clubs have until February 22 to sign players and Chinese clubs until the end of the month.

Janssen, who cost £17million from AZ Alkmaar in 2016, has been playing for the Under-23s since foot surgery at the beginning of the year.

The Holland forward is popular at the club and his relationship with Mauricio Pochettino remains cordial but the Tottenham manager would prefer to use a youngster as back-up for the first team.

Spurs’ only business yesterday was to loan Georges-Kevin Nkoudou to Monaco for the rest of the season, while youngsters Kazaiah Sterling and Anthony Georgiou went on loan to Sunderland and La Liga club Levante, respectively.
