Tottenham hit by Covid cases ahead of Newcastle game as Nuno Espirito Santo faces 'problems'

Tottenham Hotspur have been hit by two players testing positive for Covid ahead of the Premier League match at Newcastle United, football.london understands.

Earlier on Friday in his press conference, while he did not go into such detail, Nuno Espirito Santo did admit that there are problems at Tottenham ahead of Sunday's .

"After the international break there are always huge issues that happen. We have problems but I will not say before the game," he told the media.

football.london now understands that those issues are two positive Covid tests being recorded by Tottenham players following the international break.

It is understood that the club are currently confident that there are no close contact issues that would require other players to isolate.

The previous international break brought chaos through injuries and isolation for the north London club and although all of the returning Spurs players - barring the four South American players - looked to be back in training on Thursday in images taken at Hotspur Way, Espirito Santo's talk of problems did suggest that something had happened since.

Any players now testing positive would miss at least the Premier League matches against Newcastle United and West Ham United as well as the Europa Conference League group stage game at Vitesse Arnhem, during their 10-day isolation period.

As is standard procedure both affected players are expected be re-tested ahead of the Newcastle game in order to confirm the result.
