Tottenham have no plans to change Mauricio Pochettino's job title despite Spurs boss's rant

Spurs have no plans to change Mauricio Pochettino’s job title from manager to coach despite his angry claim he is unable to influence transfer policy.

The north Londoners have been left bewildered by the Argentine’s suggestion, made in Munich on Tuesday night, and insisted it was business as usual at the club.

After seeing his side beat Real Madrid , Pochettino distanced himself from the lack of transfers and said: “I know nothing about the situation of my players.

“I am only coaching them, trying to get the best from them.

“This type of thing, that are going to happen or not happen, sell or buy players, extend contracts or not extend contracts - it’s not in my hands, it’s in the club’s hands and in Daniel Levy’s hands.”

The situation has arisen with Napoli threatening to scupper Tottenham ’s bid to sign Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

After initially enjoying a free run at the Argentine, Spurs have so far failed to reach the £70million valuation set by Betis. Napoli have now entered the fray despite Pochettino reassuring the player that he is wanted in north London.

It was Pochettino who persuaded midfielder Tanguy N’dombele to join Spurs in a club-record, £65million move last month.

The Frenchman has revealed his new boss was integral in convincing him to make the switch to the Premier League.

N’dombele said: “It is difficult to describe but he knows how to touch people, to leave a mark on people. He looked me in the eyes and said: ‘Come with me, I am sure that you will progress.’

“It is these types of little things that made me want to sign over there. I could see that he really, genuinely wanted me, that he genuinely liked me.”
