Tottenham have been linked with a summer move for Sassuolo defender Gian Marco Ferrari.
According to 90Min, Spurs are continuing their search for a central defender despite signing Joe Rodon during the summer transfer window.
They claim Tottenham are 'scouring Europe' for options and they have earmarked Ferrari as a potential option, with Jose Mourinho said to be keen on a left-footed player.
Spurs currently have Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld at their disposal in the centre-back position, though the latter recently suffered an injury that is expected to keep him out until mid-December.
The report claims Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is willing to sanction a deal but he does not want to pay more than £15million for a defender in the winter.
It's believed Ferrari could be signed within that price limit but Tottenham are said to be listing candidates of a similar ilk ahead of the winter window.
Ferrari, aged 28, is under contract at Sassuolo until 2023, initially signing for the club in 2016, though he has spent time out on loan since then with spells at Crotone and Sampdoria.
The defender has racked up 60 league appearances for Sassuolo and was called up for Italy in 2018 but he didn't manage an international cap.
Roma, Napoli and Everton were all linked with a move for Ferrari in the summer transfer window but he stayed put, helping his side to a fine start to the season.
Sassuolo are currently third in Serie A after nine games, level on points with second-placed Inter and five points behind leaders AC Milan.
Ferrari has played every one of those nine league games and he has also managed two assists from the back, both of which came in the same game.
