Tottenham handed major injury boost ahead of Brighton clash

Thomas Frank has confirmed Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke is “progressing forward” after returning to training following his ankle injury.

Solanke has not featured for Spurs since coming off the bench against Manchester City last month and the forward is yet to start a match this season.

An ankle injury disrupted most of his pre-season and that has continued to hamper him in recent weeks, with Solanke not in the Spurs squad for their last three matches.

But the 28-year-old has made progress in his recovery and this week returned to individual training away from the main group.

Solanke remains sidelined for Saturday’s game against Brighton and will not be ready to return against Doncaster in the Carabao Cup next Wednesday.

But Frank provided a positive update on his recovery ahead of the trip to the Amex.

Frank said: “The positive thing is he's back on grass and has been there for three, four days and is progressing forward.

“Slowly, but forward. It's too early obviously for tomorrow, too early also for Doncaster. But the positive is he's on the grass and pushing forward."

Solanke has played just 31 minutes in the Premier League this season, coming on for 19 minutes against Burnley on the opening weekend and then played 12 minutes in the win away at Manchester City. He also played 18 minutes against Paris Saint-Germain in the Super Cup.

In his absence, Richarlison has led the line for Spurs and Mathys Tel started up front at West Ham last weekend.
