Tottenham handed major Dusan Vlahovic transfer boost after Fiorentina chief’s latest admission

Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has admitted that he cannot ‘promise’ that Dusan Vlahovic will sign a new contract at Fiorentina, amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

The striker, who netted 21 goals in 40 appearances last season, has been linked with a move to a number of Europe’s top clubs in recent windows, including the likes of Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus.

Spurs are another club who monitored his situation in the summer, especially when it looked as though Harry Kane could leave to sign for Manchester City.

Reports have claimed that he has no intention of extending his contract with the Serie A outfit, and given Commisso’s latest update, it looks as though the 21-year-old may have one eye on a transfer elsewhere.

Speaking to violanews.com, via insidefutbol, he said: “Let’s leave him [Vlahovic] alone, I spoke to him and he is a good guy who is having success.

“He is a nice thing for Fiorentina, let’s hope he can stay here for a long time.

“I won’t make promises [about his new contract] that I can’t keep.”

Fiorentina are believed to be ready to give him the most expensive contract in the club’s history, but judging by their President’s words, persuading him to stay will be an uphill battle.

His words should obviously encourage Tottenham to go in for Vlahovic in future windows, but whether Spurs actually need or want the Serbian anymore is a different discussion.

The north London outfit managed to fend off huge interest from Manchester City for Kane in the summer, and now that he is focused on Spurs – for the time being at least – they no longer require a potential replacement for him.
