Tottenham handed injury boost as coach provides encouraging update on defender

Tottenham defender Serge Aurier could yet feature again for Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations, according to his coach.

The Tottenham full-back was replaced after 69 minutes of Ivory Coast's defeat against Morocco as his injury-ravaged season looked to have taken another downturn.

The Ivory Coast captain, who missed 24 games for Spurs through injury during the 2018/19 season, left the field with a hamstring injury in the second half during Friday's 1-0 defeat in Cairo, with Aurier delivering a worrying update as he spoke to reporters afterwards .

When Aurier spoke to the media after the match, he simply said: "I think [my tournament] may be over because I felt something. It may be a tear."

But Aurier's coach, Ibrahim Kamara, has suggested that Aurier could actually still take part in the latter stages of the tournament.

Speaking ahead of the Elephants' final Group D fixture against Namibia, he hinted that the 26-year-old could yet feature for Ivory Coast again in Egypt.

"Serge Aurier is injured. For the next match, he will not be there," Kamara said.

"The doctors are treating him. We hope to have him back for the next matches."
