Tottenham handed huge injury boost as midfielder returns to training ahead of Man United clash

It has not been a good time for Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho on the injury front.

The Portuguese has seen three of his options up front struck down with various injuries since the turn of the year, with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn all sidelined for differing amounts of time.

But things could be picking up for Mourinho and Spurs.

Tottenham have slipped out of the FA Cup, the Champions League and adrift of Chelsea in the race for the top four in the last ten days and their season was in danger of petering out with a whimper.

But Mourinho has been given some good news with one of his long-term injured stars returning to training with the first team this week.

Moussa Sissoko has been out of action since New Year's Day after suffering a knee injury during the defeat to Southampton - the same game in which Harry Kane suffered an injury setback.

Following clinical assessment and scans, Sissoko underwent surgery to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee and was not expected to return to first team action until early April - the same timeframe as Kane.

However, Sissoko has handed Mourinho a timely boost by returning to first team training this week ahead of the weekend's game against Manchester United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And that was not the only good news.

Ben Davies also returned to training with the first team, having missed the games against Burnley and RB Leipzig with a hamstring problem.

Davinson Sanchez, who also missed the Leipzig clash, is also back in training.
