Tottenham handed double injury boost for Atletico Madrid clash after new update

Djed Spence was back in training ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League trip to Atletico Madrid.

The England right-back has missed Spurs’ last two games against Fulham and Crystal Palace with a calf injury.

Interim manager Igor Tudor said last week that he hoped to have Spence back available to face Atletico in the Champions League last-16 first-leg tie on Tuesday evening, and he was pictured in training at Hotspur Way on Monday morning.

"Djed is out,” Tudor said before the disastrous 3-1 home defeat by Palace on Thursday. “Not ready for the game. We hope for the Champions League game."

Spence previously missed games against Manchester City and Manchester United in February with a calf issue.

Radu Dragusin also missed out against Palace through injury, though he too was seen training on Monday.

Fellow defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven also both trained ahead of the Atletico game.

Romero has missed Spurs’ last four league matches through suspension, while Van de Ven was sent off against Palace and will miss this weekend’s trip to Liverpool.

The pair are, however, both available for selection against Atletico in a major boost for Tudor as he looks for his first win in charge at the fourth attempt following three damaging defeats.

Relegation-threatened Spurs have been hit hard by injuries this season, with eight players unavailable for the trip to Madrid in Destiny Udogie, Lucas Bergvall, Mohammed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Ben Davies and Wilson Odobert.

With Tottenham struggling for options, a number of youth players trained with the first team and will be expected to travel to Madrid as Spurs look for their first win since beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 at the end of January.
