Tottenham handed Bruno Fernandes transfer boost as Manchester United make key decision

Manchester United's attempts to sign Tottenham transfer target Bruno Fernandes in January seem to be all but over this month.

That's according to The Sun, who are reporting that United's bid to sign the Portuguese midfielder has collapsed due to Sporting Lisbon refusing to budge over their valuation of the player.

According to the report, Manchester United believe Sporting's valuation of around £68million is unreasonable, with the Red Devils not willing to meet the demands from the Portuguese side.

It has been reported that United have offered £42.5million up front, with a further £8.5million in add-ons for the 25-year-old, who was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

Everything you need to know about the January transfer window

That move failed to materialise, but rumours of Spurs' interest resurfaced in January, although Manchester United have been reported to be in pole position to sign the midfielder.

It has been reported that United were the only club in talks with Sporting this month about signing Fernandes, but with just eight days to go in the January transfer window, there has been no progress, with the two clubs so far apart in terms of the fee.

As a result, The Sun reports that Manchester United are now looking at alternatives, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to strengthen his side ahead of the deadline next Friday.
