Tottenham go silent on Real Sociedad with time running out for Willian Jose transfer

Real Sociedad have told Tottenham target Willian Jose his future must be resolved today.

The Brazilian striker was called up for the Basques’ squad for their 3-1 win over Osasuna in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey last night, but was cut from the final 18 and watched the game from the bench.

“He is training really well,” coach Imanol Alguacil said afterwards. “It was a technical decision. I understand that the 18 players I picked today could take the game forward.”

Willian Jose asked to be left out of last week’s cup clash at Espanyol after Tottenham made contact over his signing and was then dropped by Imanol for the weekend game against Mallorca in LaLiga.

The 28-year-old has told team-mates he is leaving and was ready to push for a move, but the north London club have not yet come close to Real Sociedad’s valuation of the player, who would be allowed to depart for €30-35 million.

Real Sociedad have not heard from Tottenham in over five days, but believe there could be a final offensive for Willian Jose before the close of the transfer window on Friday and have made initial contact with a number of possible replacements, including former Spurs striker Fernando Llorente.
