Tottenham given encouragement over Giovani Lo Celso injury

Tottenham fans are going to have to wait even longer to see Giovani Lo Celso in full flow.

The Argentinian summer signing from Real Betis had been being eased into action at Tottenham by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

It always takes time for a foreign import to settle into life in the Premier League, and Pochettino had been being careful with him.

Lo Celso was given five minutes at the end of the 2-2 draw with Manchester City, before being thrown on with 28 minutes to go in the shock 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

He got another 11 minutes against North London rivals Arsenal the weekend before the international break, and showed a few nice touches, and could even have scored the winner had Harry Kane looked up to see him darting into the box in injury-time, when the Spurs striker went down looking for a penalty.

Lo Celso was called up for international duty by Argentina and that will not have gone down too well with Pochettino or the Spurs fans now.

Premier League 2019/20 September fixtures

The 23-year-old limped off with a hip injury after 53 minutes of a bad-tempered friendly with Chile and Tottenham have confirmed that the midfielder will be out of action until at least the end of October.

However, Tottenham fans should be optimistic that this is not a sign of things to come for Lo Celso.

That is because this will be the midfielder's first real spell on the sidelines.

Research on transfermarkt.com shows that Lo Celso does not have an injury record, with his only spell out of action at the beginning of last season due to being rested following the World Cup in Russia.
