Tottenham given council approval for stunning new training ground feature to help team bonding

Tottenham have had plans approved to build an amphitheatre at their Hotspur Way training complex which will help with first team and academy bonding.

Spurs submitted the plans to Enfield Council in August and last month the planning department recommended their approval.

The Premier League club submitted the application to "install an outdoor teaching area/amphitheatre within the club’s training centre estate".

Spurs' locally trained player issue in Europa League

The application stated: "This application is a direct response to the club’s ongoing academy and first team operational requirements, combined with our desire to provide potential further areas for the local community across the training centre site.

"The proposal comprises the excavation of a small landscaped amphitheatre and associated access path in the existing grass meadow at the southern end of the training centre site."

The club's planning application goes into further details about the use of the 11m wide amphitheatre, which will be sunken 0.45m below ground level, so as not to impact visually on the area.

Anyone expecting to see Harry Kane, Gareth Bale & Co fighting like gladiators at the request of Jose Mourinho while be disappointed as the new area will be used for far more peaceful reasons, including team bonding and also for use by the community.

"The amphitheatre will offer the opportunity for larger groups to gather in a more informal setting," read the application.

"This space will be used by the first team and academy years along with their families as a part of social and team building exercises.

"It will also be used for educational purposes as a space for school and community groups to gather.

"The position of the amphitheatre (shown above) adjacent to the training centre’s Crested Newt Habitat allows for the space to become a part of the club’s wider project (alongside the Spurs Environmental Centre and Nature Reserve) for community education and involvement in biodiversity and ecology in the area.

"The proposed amphitheatre will provide seating for approximately 60 people, although it is not generally anticipated that this level of occupancy will be utilised."

Enfield Council approved the new feature, stating that work on the project must begin within three years of the decision.
