Tottenham get new Pape Sarr injury update ahead of Arsenal

Pape Matar Sarr has returned to Tottenham after being ruled out of Senegal's match against Kenya.

The midfielder was forced off early for Senegal in the second half of their friendly defeat to Brazil on Saturday.

Speaking after the match, Senegal boss Pape Thiaw said it was not a "big deal" and that the decision to bring Sarr off was a precautionary one.

But Sarr has not travelled with his international team-mates to Turkey for their friendly with Kenya on Tuesday.

With the match against Brazil being played at the Emirates Stadium, it was decided that it made sense for Sarr to stay in London and be assessed by Spurs.

“We left him in London," Thiaw confirmed.

"He took a knock. So we felt it would be difficult for him to recover in just two days.

“Since we were in his home city, we preferred to leave him at the disposal of his club so he could receive treatment there.”

The injury scare is one Thomas Frank could have done without ahead of a tough run of fixtures for Spurs.

They travel to Arsenal for the north London derby on Sunday and then are away at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Spurs also face a trip to Newcastle a week later.

Sarr has joined Lucas Bergvall in returning to Spurs early as both look to recover in time to face the Gunners.

Bergvall withdrew from Sweden duty after he has a reaction to further tests on the concussion he suffered against Chelsea before the international break.

With Archie Gray still out with a calf injury, Frank could be left short of midfield options against Arsenal.
