Tottenham forward Steven Bergwijn called up to Netherlands squad while Paul Pogba ruled out of France duty

Tottenham forward Steven Bergwijn has been added to the Netherlands squad for their crucial World Cup qualifiers against Norway and Montenegro.

Bergwijn was part of new manager Louis van Gaal’s first squad in September but missed the October international break through injury and was not initially recalled for this month’s game.

However, the 24-year-old is one of three players to have been summoned as injury replacements, with goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen and Ajax teenager Devyne Rensch also called up.

The Dutch face Montenegro on Saturday night before what looks likely to be a decider against Norway in Rotterdam next Tuesday.

Van Gaal’s side currently sit two points clear of the Norwegians at the top of Group G, with only the winners qualifying automatically for Qatar. Norway meet Latvia at home in their penultimate game.

Meanwhile, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been ruled out of France’s final qualifiers after limping out of training on Monday with a thigh injury.

The world champions take on Kazakhstan and Helsinki in their final two fixtures, knowing victory at home to the former will see them qualify to defend their title next year with a game to spare.
