Tottenham forward Son Heung-min to return early from Asian Cup after South Korea are upset by Qatar

Tottenham Hotspur have received an unexpected boost after Qatar knocked South Korea out of the AFC Asian Cup at the quarter-final stage.

Spurs have been struggling for numbers in attack since Son Heung-min went away on international duty, with Harry Kane out through injury and now Dele Alli added to that list.

It means Mauricio Pochettino's side have been deprived of their three greatest goal threats but the surprise 1-0 win for the Qataris, played out in Abu Dhabi, means that Son could be available for their next Premier League game at home to Watford on Wednesday.

Son will miss Spurs' trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday but if he can return in time to face the Hornets then Korea's exit will represent a significant gain for Pochettino's side.

Tottenham laboured past Fulham on Sunday with Fernando Llorente leading the line but the Spaniard was poor and only Harry Winks' last-gasp effort saved Spurs from losing ground on the top two.

If Son is not ready to face Watford at Wembley on Wednesday night then he will return to the line-up against Newcastle on Saturday, the same day when the Asian Cup final is due to be played.

Tottenham will also assess Moussa Sissoko and Ben Davies for the FA Cup fourth-round at Crystal Palace this weekend.

Sissoko (knee) and Davies (groin) picked up injuries in the Carabao Cup semi-final defeat at Chelsea.

Kane (ankle), Alli (hamstring) and Son (international duty) remain unavailable.

Provisional squad: Lloris, Gazzaniga, Trippier, Alderweireld, Aurier, Sanchez, Rose, Davies, Walker-Peters, Sissoko, Foyth, Winks, Moura, Eriksen, Skipp, Lamela, Llorente.
