Tottenham forward Son Heung-min makes surprise Manchester United admission amid injury woes

Tottenham forward Son Heung-min has made the surprise admission that he used to be a Manchester United fan as a child.

The South Korean winger, who has been with Spurs since a transfer from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2015, has now made 284 appearances for the club - the most for any team throughout his career. In that time, he has scored 109 goals.

His loyalty to Tottenham is certainly not in doubt at the current time having penned a new four-year contract in the summer - a deal that is set to take him to the age of 33.

However, he has admitted that he was a supporter of Manchester United growing up because of the influence of former Red Devils cult hero Park Ji-sung.

Talking to Pro: Direct’s Pavement to Pitch, he was asked what teams he used to watch growing up and replied: "Manchester United because obviously Ji-sung [Park] was playing. He’s a national hero. He’s a national hero for me. He’s a good friend of mine.

"He was the first one who played in the Premier League. I was supporting United obviously I can’t now so!"

Son will certainly hope to make his return to Tottenham action against Chelsea this weekend.

The South Korean picked up an ankle injury on international duty and was ruled out for the 3-0 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace, as well as the 2-2 draw with Rennes in the Europa Conference League on Thursday evening.

Should he not be fit, Nuno Espirito Santo has a severe problem to solve with both Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn having suffered problems in France.
