Tottenham fans will love what Toby Alderweireld said after Audi Cup win against Bayern Munich

The future of Toby Alderweireld has been a big talking point this summer, but the defender may just have given Tottenham fans a bit of good news.

The Belgian international has just a year remaining on his Spurs contract, leading to speculation that he could be looking to move on this summer.

Alderweireld even had a £25million release clause in his contract, leading to reports that the defender could leave for a cut-price fee, however the expiry of that clause means that Spurs can breathe easy.

Of course with over a week of the summer transfer window remaining speculation will continue to mount about the 30-year-old's future, but an update on his social media account may just reassure some Tottenham fans who are fearing the worst.

The post came after Spurs' victory over Bayern Munich which saw the north London side lift their first piece of silverware of the season, the Audi Cup.

Alderweireld took to Twitter to share his delight at the victory, and posted a simple message which read: "Starting as we mean to go on!"

It may seem a fairly innocuous post from a professional footballer, but with his future currently up in the air, the apparent show of commitment will certainly go down well with the Spurs fans.

Whether it means that Toby Alderweireld will stay in north London for the long haul remains to be seen, but it's certainly a positive sign.

After all, Tottenham's fans would love nothing more than to see the defender extend his stay.
