Tottenham fans will love what Steven Bergwijn has said about his goals and Jose Mourinho's squad

It will take some beating to top Steven Bergwijn's Tottenham debut.

Signed from PSV at the end of the January transfer window, the Dutch international was handed a start against Man City days after completing his move to the capital.

Whereas in the past Mauricio Pochettino may have eased him in at the club given the pace and intensity of the top flight, Jose Mourinho elected to throw him straight in against the champions.

It proved to be the correct decision as the 22-year-old helped the team complete a brilliant 2-0 victory with a stunning volley beyond Ederson just past the hour mark.

Tottenham behind the scenes

The attacker has continued to wow Spurs fans since his debut but he has only played in seven games for the club after picking up an ankle injury in their last Premier League match.

Everyone is certainly looking forward to seeing more of what the player can do and he will be keen to make an instant impression once Premier League action resumes.

The Lilywhites currently trail Chelsea by seven points in the race for the top four and they will have to be at their best in their remaining nine games if they are to compete in Europe's top competition for a fifth successive season.

But what are the player's goals for this campaign and the future?

Well, Bergwijn opened up on what he wants to achieve at his new club when answering questions as part of a special Q&A session on the club's Twitter page.

"I think for now we have to focus on a Champions League place for next season," he said. "I want to be champions of course, everybody wants to be champions. I think we have a good team."

Bergwijn was also quizzed about which players helped him settle in at the club at the turn of the year after leaving his home country for N17.

As Tanguy Ndombele had Moussa Sissoko to help him settle into his new surroundings back in the summer, the Dutchman waxed lyrical about the group as a whole instead of naming one particular player as he opened up on life under Mourinho in north London.

"I think everybody helped me a lot," explained Bergwijn. "We are one team and it feels like family. I think everybody helped."

Results may not have gone Mourinho's way since he took on the job but everyone will be hoping that the family atmosphere at the club can help Bergwijn achieve his goals come this time next year.
