Ryan Mason has stated that he wants his side to be "brave and aggressive" and "play like Tottenham Hotspur" when they are out on the pitch.
Confirmed as the club's interim head coach on Tuesday morning following Jose Mourinho's dismissal from his position 24 hours earlier, the former Spurs player will take charge of the team for the first time on Wednesday when they host Southampton in N17.
Mourinho was widely criticised for his style of play during his 17 months in charge as the 58-year-old adopted a rather defensive approach despite boasting the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Tanguy Ndombele in his XI.
A bad run of results in 2021 proved to be his downfall in the end and Mason will be hoping that he can get his side back on track with three points against Southampton.
Asked by football.london at his pre-match press conference about what his version of Spurs will look like, he said: "I'd hope to think it's what a Tottenham Hotspur side would historically look like. I want us to be brave and aggressive, to play like Tottenham Hotspur.
"With such a short turnaround with games at the moment, the most important thing is to get the players in a right frame of mind, to give them some key principles in how we want to approach games of football and then hopefully as that goes on that can develop."
Then pressed on what he can bring to the role, Mason added: "Many things. Any head coach will want to have an idea of how they want to play.
"To help the guys, to have a structure, a strategy of how to win games of football. And how I communicate that to the boys on the training pitch or in the classroom is a huge part of my job.
"The good thing is this group wants to listen, wants to learn and hopefully I can help them."
Following Wednesday's Premier League clash against Southampton, Mason will then lead his side back out at Wembley as Spurs take on Man City in the Carabao Cup final.
