Tottenham fans will love what Paul Merson predicted for Arsenal this season

It's been a mixed start to the season for Arsenal.

A tally of 11 points from six games places the Gunners in fourth place in the Premier League table - a standing which undoubtedly puts the north London side firmly on track.

However there's a feeling that Unai Emery's side have more to give with an open defence leaving them painfully vulnerable.

It proved costly in the 2-2 draw with Watford, while Arsenal only had their blushes spared against Aston Villa when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck a free-kick late on in Sunday's game at the Emirates Stadium.

But a late get-out has not convinced Paul Merson.

The former Gunner was a guest on Monday night's episode of The Debate and the midfielder was discussing Arsenal's performance, and where he thinks Unai Emery's side will finish this season.

He said: "It's just covered the cracks. Fair play, great comeback, but you can't keep on doing that. Sooner or later it will catch up with you.

"I still think Tottenham will come third. I still think Tottenham are third best team in league in my opinion."

Merson's verdict may not go down with the fans of his former employers, particularly considering their current standing in the Premier League's top four.
