Tottenham fans will love what Harry Winks said after Stoke win as he sets Spurs target

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is hopeful that he and his teammates can go all the way in the Carabao Cup this season after securing a place in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening.

Spurs, who last won the Carabao Cup back in 2008 when it was then known as the Carling Cup, progressed to the last-four with a hard-fought 3-1 win over Championship side Stoke City.

Gareth Bale handed Jose Mourinho's side a first-half lead before the Potters drew level eight minutes into the second half through a close range finish from Jordan Thompson.

Spurs were forced to work hard for the win, but they got the job done thanks to strikes from Ben Davies and leading marksman Harry Kane inside the last 20 minutes.

Now that Spurs have secured their spot in the semi-finals, Winks is hopeful that they can go all the way to Wembley and lift their first trophy in 13 years by the time the final comes around in April.

Winks told Sky Sports: “We hope so. It’s such a difficult competition with so many good teams left in it, so it’s going to be a really difficult match in the semi, whoever we face, but we’re doing well and it’s another positive performance for us tonight.

“We’re really happy. We knew coming into this game, a cold, wet, windy, Wednesday night at Stoke, it was going to be tough, but when we apply ourselves in the fashion that we did.

"We were aggressive from the first whistle, we were strong and ready to compete, and we made it a lot easier for ourselves.

"We knew they were going to be a threat, they’re a good side and they’re doing well in the Championship. We knew they were going to pose a threat to us and they scored and credit to them.

"But the mentality was to keep going and do what we were doing, and that got us the lead and thankfully it got us to win 3-1."

On an individual note, the win over Stoke saw Winks, who has been linked with an exit from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of the January transfer window opening in less than two weeks time, deliver a promising performance from the centre of the park, providing the assist for Bale's opener.

"Yes, really pleased. It’s been tough, minutes-wise, and to come into a game with this intensity is always difficult when you haven’t had as many minutes as you want," Winks added when reflecting on his performance.

"The boys were brilliant, we pulled ourselves through it; it’s a big pitch and a tough place to come. I’m really pleased to win man of the match."
