Tottenham were in pre-season action on Saturday as they stepped up preparations for the upcoming season.
Spurs took on Championship side Birmingham City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
An 89th-minute strike from winger Steven Bergwijn gave Tottenham a 1-0 win ahead of their final pre-season encounter with Watford next week.
There was, however, one name missing from the team sheet for the game, but Erik Lamela had a good excuse not to be able to play.
As shown on the player’s Instagram account, the player was supporting his wife through the birth of their child.
And the forward was quick to introduce his new baby, Thiago, to being a Tottenham supporter.
Lamela put a picture on his Instagram stories of the two watching the pre-season friendly on his tablet.
He also tagged Gedson Fernandes, who was on the screen at the time and Spurs’ official Instagram account.
That means Lamela should be back and available for Tottenham’s next preseason game when they take on Watford at Vicarage Road next Saturday ahead of their Premier League opener against Everton.
Another player who could be available for the matches is Wolves defender Matt Doherty, who has now passed a medical at Spurs ahead of a summer transfer.
The right-back will arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a fee believed to be around £13 million.
